The inaugural 2018 Diversity Showcase is a 6-day program that will provide a platform for directors, writers and actors who are underrepresented on Australia’s screens. Diverse performers, writers and directors will collaborate during the course of the six days, culminating in a one-day performance showcasing their best work to an audience of network executives, managers and other industry professionals. The program will consist of morning workshops, discussions, and professional development, as well as the rehearsal of the final showcase during the rest of the day.
After the program, the directors will be given the opportunity to be mentored by a leading Australian screen director, and have access to other development programs. They will also be given a 1-year Associate Membership to the Australian Directors' Guild.
There will be five directors selected to work with 10 actors and 5 writers during the program. The program will take place in Sydney and those from other states or regional areas will be offered support for travel and accommodation.
The Equity Foundation and the Equity Diversity Committee, with support from Screen Australia, the Australian Directors' Guild and the Australian Writers' Guild, are putting on its first Diversity Showcase - in response to Screen Australia’s 2016 report “Seeing Ourselves: Reflections on Diversity in Australian TV Drama."
