2018 ADG Awards - SIMON BAKER WINS ADG AWARD FOR HIS FEATURE DIRECTORIAL DEBUT BREATH

The 2018 ADG Awards have just wrapped up in Melbourne and Simon Baker has won the most anticipated award of the night, the category of Best Direction of a Feature Film for his feature directorial debut Breath. Other winners included Larissa Behrendt for Best Direction of a Documentary Feature for After the Apology, and Fiona Banks, who won 2 ADG Awards for her work on Wentworth (Best Direction of a TV or SVOD Drama Series) and Mustangs FC (Esben Storm Award for Best Direction of a Children's TV or SVOD Drama).

 
The Awards took place earlier this evening at the Sofitel Melbourne on Collins. Presenters, including Kat Stewart, Xavier Samuel, Adam Elliot and Michala Banas, presented 16 awards at the event which recognises excellence in the craft and art of directing, as well as acknowledging individual contributions by Australian Screen Directors to film, television, documentary, animation and interactive media. 
 
Daina Reid was the winner of the ADG Award for Best Direction of a TV or SVOD Mini Series for the SBS drama Sunshine and Jonathan Brough won the award for Best Direction of a TV or SVOD Comedy Program for the ABC’s Rosehaven. In the category of Best Direction of a TV or SVOD Drama Serial, Danny Raco was awarded for his work on Home and Away.
 
Joining Larissa Behrendt amongst the winners in the documentary categories were Alex Barry who won Best Direction of a Documentary Series for The Surgery Ship, and Sari Braithwaite who won the award for Best Director of a Documentary Standalone Project for Paper Trails. Jolyon Hoff received a High Commendation in the same category for The Staging Post.
 
John Sheedy was the winner of the award for Best Direction of a Short Film for Mrs McCutcheon. In the Online categories, Scott Mannion took out the ADG Award for Best Direction of an Online Drama Project for The Defector, and Henry Inglis won the award for Best Direction of an Online Comedy Project for Small Town Hackers.
 
Best Direction of an Animated Project was won by Steve Baker for This is Desmondo Ray!. The judges also awarded a High Commendation to Marieka Walsh and Larissa Behrendt for Barbara, citing “their command of animated storytelling to convey difficult subject matter with beauty and sensitivity”. 
 
The award for Best Direction of Commercial Content went to Paul Middleditch for Celebrate Australia, and Nick Waterman won Best Direction of a Music Video for Sheppard’s Edge of the Night.
